The Bath House in Naoshima is a casual house where bathing becomes a central activity, seamlessly connected to the sea and the landscape. Positioned along the island’s coastline, the house embraces the simplicity of daily rituals, taking in the ever-changing views of the Seto Inland Sea.

A small, single-story structure, its open design blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing fresh air and natural light to flow through. Large openings frame the sea, making the act of bathing feel like an extension of the landscape itself. Built with yakisugi, a traditional charred wood technique, the house blends into its surroundings while withstanding the coastal climate.

Whether soaking in the warm bath or resting on the deck, the house creates a sense of stillness, where time slows and the horizon becomes part of daily life. More than just a bathhouse, it is a place for quiet contemplation, where architecture, nature, and water come together in a simple yet deeply sensory experience.
